Developing An Effective Keyword List
When considering the importance of Search Engine Optimization (SEO), the success of your website often depends on it. That is why it takes crucial planning and careful execution of the best, most appropriate keywords in order to improve your ranking and effectively capture the attention of your target market.
Coming up with a list of the perfect keywords, or combination of words, takes time. Some website owners often think this is the easiest step in the SEO process. However, they couldn’t be more wrong. In fact, this step should be the most difficult. Why? Because, sure anyone can come up with a list of keywords related to your business. But not everyone knows exactly what your customers are looking for.
When creating your list of keywords, you have to put yourself in the shoes of your customers and actually think like them, rather than try to sell to them. In other words, as a business owner, you may have a tendency to use buzzwords (like “niche” or “conversion”). But your customers may not be as familiar with those terms, or simply apply more commonly used words to the same concepts (like “group” or “sales”).
The trick is to come up with a list of keywords that not only apply to your business, but actually work. You may start with a list of 100 words, but in order to drive customers to your site, you will have to cut it down. A great tip is to take a look at some competitors’ sites. Try to get a feel for what keywords they are focusing on and how you might be able to improve upon and top them.
And don’t limit yourself to single keywords. SEO is about the recognition of single and mutli-word phrases. For example, if you are in the telecommunications business, you wouldn’t only optimize for words like “calling”, “telephone” or “wireless”. Instead, you might focus on keyword phrases like “call centers”, “wireless communication” or “home telephone services”.
The good news is, you won’t be alone in your SEO efforts. There are many useful tools available to help you develop the best, most effective and easy to rank keywords possible. Google, in particular, provides a tool that allows you to research how often keywords are searched. What you want to avoid are keywords that impossible to top.
For example, a very broad word like “cellphone” is searched over 2.2 Million times a month (according to Google AdWords keyword tool). This makes it nearly impossible for your site to come up within the first few pages of a search engine because the competition is so fierce. But a phrase like “cellphone service” is searched 14,800 times a month, making it easier to compete for a high ranking spot. Therefore, if you are in the cellphone industry, be it sales, service, accessories or otherwise, you will want to optimize for phrases and keywords that are searched often but not so often you lose your ability to be found.

How To Add an Exit Popup To Your Blog Using Aweber
In a previous post I showed you how to add an inline optin box to your blog. In the video below I’ll demonstrate how to add an exit popup optin box on your blog using Aweber.
Pop ups; you either love them or you hate them. They can be distracting to your blog visitors but at the same time if done properly can add value to your readers and new subscribers for your newsletter.
Pop up optin boxes are a very effective ways to add subscribers to you mailing list, especially in niche markets. Creating popups on your blog is relatively easy to do. There are however a few different types of popup windows you can use.
I prefer the exit popup. So when someone leaves a page on your website they get a popup window thanking them for visiting your site and a gentle reminder to subscribe to your newsletter.
The only negative that I see to the exit popup is that it’s triggered even if the reader clicks on a link within the post. As far as the script is concerned that’s and exit from the page. That could bother someone that was planning to spend more time reading your blog.
Another very important consideration for any pop up is how often it shows up. Look at the pop-up recurrence section in the image above and choose the option that suites your blog best. Keep in mind that you don’t want to annoy your readers so choose wisely. I’d recommend the 3rd option – Display every x days.
Testing the different types of pop up optin boxes over time will determine which one gives you the best conversion rate.
Aweber is my autoresponder list provider of choice and highly recommend it. For more information on autoresponders check out How to Choose the Best List Provider – Autoresponder Service
So what do you think of Popup Optin boxes:
- Do they annoy you?
- Are they distracting?
- Do you use them?
- Which type do you prefer

How to Choose the Best List Provider – Autoresponder Service
In the world of online marketing, building a list is absolutely necessary. Most marketers don’t have the expertise or the time to set up a list management system on their own server and I really would not recommend it. Instead, most use an paid autoresponder service. An autoresponder service such as the one I use, Aweber, will allow you to collect e-mail addresses from buyers and visitors to your websites.
List management is an essential part of any Internet marketing business. Capturing a person’s name and e-mail address when they visit your site allows you to send them helpful information, build your relationship with them and offer new products. It’s an absolute requirement that your list provider be easy to use and have the capabilities to deliver professional messages.
Look for the following features to find the best autoresponder service.
EASY opt in form creation.
Your list can’t exist unless you have an opt in form on your website. The opt in forms should be easy to create within the list provider’s system. You should be able to feel secure in putting the opt-in form on your website and trusting that it will work.
In a previuos post I created a video to show you how easy it is to add an opt-in box using Aweber. You can check it out here:

SUBSCRIBE/unsubscribe system.
Subscriptions and unsubscriptions from your list shouldn’t need any input on your part. Your email subscribers should be added automatically and removed just as easily.
TRACKING capabilities.
E-mail marketing isn’t effective unless you can tell how your messages are being received. A good list provider program will allow you test and track your messages. You can see how many are being opened by your list members and how many are clicking through on your links. This can be a great way to learn how to market more effectively so you can reach your target audience.
LIST management.
Your autoresponder service should give you the ability to manage numerous lists at once. You should be able to send a message to a few lists at once, filtering out people who are on a third list. You should also have the ability to send messages to people who subscribed after a certain date. All of these capabilities will help you market to your list more effectively.
INTERNET connection.
You shouldn’t have to wait for your messages to go out due to a server outage on your list provider’s side. Your list provider should be professional enough to keep an active Internet connection to your list management tools at all times. The better the connection, the faster you can work with your list.
SECURITY features.
Your list provider should make it clear in their terms of service that your personal information and the information of your clients will be secure and protected from hackers. Since people are giving you their personal information, you deserve to know that the list provider will keep their information secure.
TECHNICAL support.
If your list provider isn’t there to help you work through the technical issues to use their system don’t consider them as an option. You’re using an autoresponder service in order to make your life easier. You shouldn’t have to be hassled with technical details. Look for a provider that offers phone as well as IM support.
My autoresponder of choice is Aweber. I know from experience that they meet all of the above requirements and also have excellent customer service.
By looking for these features in your list provider, you can be sure that you’re finding a true partner in your business that you can count on to help you grow your business.
